Cowichan and Duncan Events

When HarbourLiving.ca,Vancouver Island's Events website was launched in June of 2007, we created the site with three different regions. South Island - listing events in Victoria and the Gulf Islands, North Island - listing events from the Comox Valley, Campbell River and North and then Central Island - listing events from Duncan, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach and the West Coast including Port Alberni and Tofino.

Since HarbourLiving.ca has become very well used by Nanaimo and area event organizers, it meant that events happening in Cowichan were getting lost in amongst the over 200 events listed in the Central Island region.

In order to make it even easier for people to find events happening in the Cowichan region, including Duncan, Ladysmith, Chemainus and the surrounding areas, the Cowichan was added as it's own region on HarbourLiving.ca

We expect to launch Harbour Living Weekly - Cowichan edition January of 2007.

HarbourLiving.ca becomes Vancouver Island's Events Website

As of 1pm today (June 15/07) I'm pleased to announce that HarbourLiving.ca is now Vancouver Island's Events Website!

Since 2005 we've been promoting events happening in and around Nanaimo, however as we looked around the island, there wasn't anything like it, so we created it!

There are plenty of event calendar's out there, just nothing as comprehensive as HarbourLiving.ca

We list every kind of event happening for any audience. Concerts, Festivals, Art Exhibits, Sports, Recreation, Family Events, Free Events and much more!

If you need help remembering when events are happening, subscribe to our Free weekly enewsletter Harbour Living Weekly.

On your mark, get set... You may hear this more than once this weekend. Starting Friday night with the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life then Saturday morning for the start of the Van Isle 360. Wishing all the participants of both events best of luck! If you haven't done so already, be sure to sponsor a Relay participant in their efforts to raise funds for the Cancer Society.

I'm looking forward to strapping on my rollerblades and seeing if I can convince Dave to try out Rollerskating. Don't worry everyone, we have a video camera!

Is it too early to be thankful for rain?

As I spent time watering my precious berry patch this weekend, I couldn't help but be thankful to hear the news that we were going to get rain this week. Don't get me wrong, I love the beautiful sunshine, but as I become a 'gardener' and I use the term loosely, you learn to be thankful for all types of weather.

For your entertainment we've included both indoor and outdoor events in this week's email so no matter the weather you'll have plenty of options.

Events in Nanaimo this week

Issue #87 - May 29, 2007

Life on the water... well, I prefer 'in the water'. If you haven't discovered some of the great safe places along the Nanaimo river or dipped your toes in one of the city's many lakes, it could be a whole new adventure for you. I think we'll be working on a little boating vacation this summer as well. If only there were some kind of outdoor activities to do on this island. ;)

After this weekend, I'm sure Dave will have a new 'Hobby-of-the-month". He's mentioned, on more than one occasion his need for a boat. Admittedly a boat of some kind would be welcome. We just need to finish the backyard project before we hit the high seas. Here's hoping all your sea-faring dreams come true.

Events in Nanaimo this week

Issue #86 - May 22, 2007

A short week doesn't mean less things to do... Last Thursday, Dave and I were tromping through the woods with the puppies as we always do, when we cam across a lovely golden shoe. I grabbed the shoe thinking a poor mountain biker was somewhere in the forest was missing it, only to read the attached note, asking that it be left right where it was and to take a code to Ravensong or Oceanside Centre's. Being the kind of person who likes a challenge, I took one and came home and did a quick internet search to find that the Regional District of Nanaimo has been running a fun scavenger hunt for the past few weeks! Needless to say, Dave and I knew what we had to do. Did you know we have Suspension Bridge in Nanaimo?! If you have the time and love exploring new parks, I highly recommend playing the Hunt for the Golden Shoe.

With Summer well on it's way, more and more of our events are happening outdoors. This week we have a real selection of events for everyone from Sporty to the Artsy.
